It’s that time of year again—time for carousels, Ferris wheels, corn dogs, funnel cakes and midway games. That’s right—it’s Lorain County Fair time.
Held at the Lorain County Fairgrounds in Wellington, this annual pastime’s 2010 edition starts on August 23 at and runs through August 29. Admission is just $4 (free for kids under 8), so there’s no reason to miss any of the Lorain County Fair fun.
This year’s main entertainment features country music superstar Craig Morgan, The Charlie Daniels Band, a demolition derby, tractor pulls, combine and pickup truck derbies, and a motocross championship. In addition, a pony fun show, kiddie pedal pull, a pony pull, live performances by local musicians and dancers, and a bake sale will also keep patrons busy.
Of course, you can’t come to the Lorain County Fair without stuffing your face with delicious fair food (giant battered onion rings, apple dumplings, cheese-on-a-stick, fried Twinkies, gyros, walking tacos, elephant ears or Italian sausage, anyone?) and riding the fairway rides like the “Music Express”, the “Zero Gravity Chamber” or the “Hammer”. You might consider riding first, though—you wouldn’t want to toss your cookies (err, Twinkies)!
Midway ride tickets are $1 each. Most rides require 2-3 tickets. Ride-all-day wristbands are $20 each. Special kid’s day wristbands are available for just $15 each on Monday, Thursday and Sunday.
If you love to shop, you’ll get to do plenty of your favorite activity at the Lorain County Fair. Dozens of vendors will be on hand selling everything from hand-made jewelry and clothing to t-shirts, trinkets, crafts, and even foods like jarred sauces, candies and baked goods.
In addition to the other fair activities, be sure to stop by the live animal tents—they’re sure to elicit gigantic grins and shrieks of delight from your little ones. Pet the goats, sheep, pigs and rabbits and watch the cows, horses, and chickens. Make sure to snap a picture or two— these special animals make for life-long memories.
